A unique Inter School Sports meet was organized by FAME India, an NGO which works for students with neuro developmental disabilities on Dec 3rd 2013 at Kittur Rani Chenamma kreedangana. This event was conducted to commemorate International Day of persons with Disabilities. Complying with the UN theme“Break barriers; open doors for an Inclusive society for all” FAME India has put in phenomenal effort in mobilizing resources to make this event happen. Several special schools, the mainstream schools, the musical band choir from the neighbourhood school, NCC cadets from National college, Judges from Akzo Nobel, volunteers from CISCO systems , and parents… participation speaks volume of the organization’s effort to sensitize the community thereby remove BARRIERS and pave a path for an inclusive society;
The programme commenced with a “March Past” by 13 contingents of various Special Schools and Main stream Schools. The musical band choir from Sree Rama Vidyalaya and the NCC contingent from National College added colour to the event.FAME India had planned 33 events for all the students including for the wheel chair bound. The highlight of this sports meet was the integrated events comprising of both students with special needs and mainstream school students.Seven Special Schools and six main stream schools participated in this event. In all over 300 students participated.The Chief Guest Ms.Ashwini Nachappa, an accomplished athlete and Arjuna Awardee along with Dr.Sudhakar Dhantiki, MD,Akzo Nobel India Ltd declared the sports meet open and encouraged the students to give their best.Ms.Marisa Chancellor and Mr.Didier Dhaenens, Directors, CISCO Systems gave away the prizes and encouraged the students.The Championship Trophy was bagged by Sophia Opportunity School and runners up prize by Deepika school.
